We discussed how we wanted the magazine advert to look and decided that we would try and stick with one of the main images. We tested out many different designs.
Our first design was the collage as the background and white text on top, however, it looked too busy and the text was a little bit difficult to read.

We then came up with the idea of using the polaroid image with the collage as maybe the main image on the advert.

We wanted to have a small picture of the Digipak cover somewhere on the advert, much like professional magazine adverts so that the buyer can easily spot it in the shop.

we then discussed using an image of the band on the poster, but realised we would need permission. I got in touch with a member of the band asking permission.

Overall, we have made 3 different designs that we can choose from, and will when we are all together at the same time to make the final decision.

For this panel, we decided to put the names of two tracks down, again keeping it simple, we used the same font and at the bottom included the names of the band members and our thanks on the other side.

Casey came up with the idea of having some sort of collage on this page, so we tested out ways in which we could do that. Casey brought in some collages that she had made including stills from our music video. We eventually decided to use one of them for panel 4 within another polaroid, to stick with the theme.

We used pictures of ourselves, the days out filming and the actors from the video for this panel to emphasise the idea of a "good time".

Here, we took pictures of each of the band members and took the signatures of each one from a signed CD that I owned. We felt that this could be the page for the band members.

This is the front cover for our digipak. We decided that we wanted to keep the whole thing quite simple, using a white background. There was LOADS of colour within the individual polaroid pictures which meant that it would be hard for us to determine the background colour, therefore we stuck with white. It made the ploaroids stand out.

As for the polaroid idea, we felt that it was relavent in terms of the idea of a photo album that we had running through the music video. The pictures on the front cover were images that we felt represented the song in some way. (City lights and friendship).

We wanted the font to look handwritten, and attempted to write it ourselves but our handwriting wasn't nice enough, so we found a font that looked handwritten and neat.

We decided that maybe we could do some collages of stills from our music video and other pictures we have taken. we used Photoshop and found it took quite long to make these. and here and above will be more examples of different styles of the collages. We also used one in our final design.

Inspiration for our CD cover

We talked about using some of our own images but put into Polaroid form, at home I have a program that can do that. We thought that it would be a simple idea but effective. Images we had in mind were images of city lights, maybe the band, maybe the girls,with all the photos scattered on a table or bed. The image below is an example of one that we would use.

we have finished editing for our music video
we used final cut express to edit our video instead of using imovie. this was a benefit to us because final cut is more advanced in terms of techniques used in editing. we used this program as we need to make an effect as there is a clip of where an images in the photo album comes to life.
we have also made our song more shorter as we didn't have enough footage to fill up the whole song.
we have also decided to cut out the sleep over as we think that it doesn't fit well in to our video.
through using final cut we have learned on how we can images in videos to life.
i believe that i have improved on putting the shots in line with the beats very well, also in deciding which shots are to be used nd which shots aren't.
we have tried to make our video as close as we could to our story board. we have changed some parts such as cutting out the sleep over and also we swapped the london scene with going to the arcade scene and the bowling scene.
we have added some affects to improve our video.

Filming the band:

2 weeks ago Mikaela Went to a Lights and sounds concert and filmed them performing. We wanted to focus on the main song which was "by the city lights". Unfortunatly we couldn't take the actual video camera in the building due to legal reasons, so she took her camera instead. it was very hard to keep still as it was a concert and she was in a crowded area. We decided to film this scene because we wanted the girls to go to a concert after bowling. We thought it would be cool to have the actual band in the music video..as it makes it more effective and realistic.

Problems with avaliability of actors/ Changing the storyboard:

It started to get difficult finding days when both actors and ourselves were avaliable for filming. The other day we realised that we would only have one day before our deadline to film both the 'London' scene and the 'Park' scene. Due to the bad weather, we decided to change the park scene to an indoor activity. We chose to go bowling and so on Thursday 3rd November, we met up with the actors and went to the bowling alley. We were presented with another problem, the only time that was free was 9.30pm. We decided that with only that time to film, we cut out the 'London' scene idea and replaced it with an 'arcade' scene.

Problems with filming in a concert venue:

We've discovered that a lot of the time, a video camera isn't allowed into the venue of a gig or concert, usually due to copyright. We've decided that for this idea, we can edit our storyboard to suit this. We might have to use a digital camera to film the gig scenes, but hopefully this won't be a problem as a gig atmosphere is usually pretty rough anyway. Alternatively, we might try to get a photo pass so we are at the front of the gig but seeing as the gig isn't that far away, this might be difficult.

- Intro: Montage of images linked with getting ready to go on a day out and also introducing the three characters.

- Photo album: This idea is that the photo album is opened and the camera zooms into one picture and pans out into that actual scene, that memory of the day out. This idea carries on through the whole video being the transition to our other scenes.

- London Day Out: The cast spend a day out around London, starting in picadilly circus, going onto the london eye and finally big ben.

- Park Scene: The characters having fun in the park, they start by playing guitar on top of the hill and singing along with the track. (lip syncing). They then run around the park, play on the slide and end on the roundabout.

- Sleepover Scene: Characters watching a scary movie, have a pillow fight.

- End of memories: back to photo album, back to original 'getting ready' day. The girls are getting ready to go to the 'lights and sounds' gig. (We will be going to the gig and filming.)

- Lights and Sounds Gig: The characters go to the gig and have fun, we will film the band playing live and general gig atmosphere.

Me and Casey went to Victoria Park to film some of the firework display and rides at the fair. We thought this would be a good idea maybe for the end of the video with fireworks and as for the rides, we originally wanted some shots of the actresses at the fair, but we've since put this idea aside.

The main focus of our video will be the theme of a 'day out with friends'
We wanted to keep it simple and came up with these ideas after listening to the song. The upbeat nature of the song gave us these images of having fun and simply enjoying a day out.
Within the day out we had ideas for these shots:
- waking up in the morning (a shot that shows a duvet being thrown over the camera)
- meeting up with friends
- sitting on a hill, playing guitar
- top of bus
- roundabout shot
- riverside
- ends with the friends going to the band's gig :)

There isn't much of a narrative but the ideas kind of tell a small story.

I watched this video and found it intereting. The whole song is about how everything ends. Nothing last. So the video did match the words of the song. just a basic set and some camera shots can be very effective. The light showing through the windows showed that the day is ending. it looked like they performed just while the sun was going down and this showed that "everything ends" just like the words in the song. It gave me good ideas to use in my video

I've decided to upload this video, because not only does it have a story in it, the fact that the video is shown backwards immediately draws the audience's attention. The fact that it's backwards also makes some people reverse it as you can see on youtube, therefore getting the video more publicity and the song, more listens. There are a few other videos in this genre of music that have done the same thing, I will upload another example...
